Hi Everyone,
I wanted to share some recent news about rocks with highly anomalous Platinum Group Elements (PGEs) collected from an ultramafic-serpentinite shear zone within one of our licences. As background, the first finding of anomalous PGEs, was in June 2022 (bag R708). In 2023 and 2024 there have been a few more anomalous assays for rocks from the zone, but not as good as R708. Then in the recent collection, two bags of rocks NM507 and NM509, were anomalous. Actually, NM509 had the most anomalous assay yet (platinum 0.123 ppm and palladium 0.128 ppm). I have included a photo of the reference samples for NM509. Previously, I have been looking for rocks in the shear zone that are dense and have blackish spider-web patterns in the serpentinite. But NM509, with the most anomalous PGEs, may be showing something different. The hand specimen looks to be blackish, is a bit metamorphosed, has a bit of layering, and is a bit angular when broken. I hope you can see something in the photos. So, next time I go to the shear zone, I will search for outcropping of rocks with a similar layered (?)hornblendite-like appearance. (7th March 2025)
