The exploration targets Country which is made from ultramafic rocks that came from the seabed during the formation of the New England Orogen (landform). The ultramafic rocks formed during collisions between the mainland of NSW and island arcs some 252 to 541 million years ago. These rocks are rich in iron and some of the rocks have been altered by heat and pressure to form serpentinite - a green, talcy mineral (see image). The ultramafic rocks may contain cobalt, nickel, chrome, plus other metals toxic to plants. As a result, some of the soils in these areas have vegetation which is often stunted and unproductive in spite of adequate water supplies. This type of country is often known as ultramafic barrens. We are prospecting for metals which are below the surface.
