Progress in April-May 2019

Access

Several meetings were held, and the process is underway. It is likley to take several months before any agreements have been reached.

Equipment

Several items were purchased which will be used to carry out field work. In particular a Gamin GPS Map 78 was purchased for recording the coordinates for each site. It was tested and found to be accurate to 2 to 3 metres.

Homework

Ongoing study was carried out on the geology of Nowendoc and the Great Serpentine Belt. Also, recent advances in geophysics were investigated.

Travel

Trips were undertaken to:

  • Sydney to the Australian Museum's  Rock and Minerals Collection
  • Orange to discuss the project with geologists;
  • Bathurst to visit the Sommerville rock museum;
  • Armidale to visit landowners;
  • Nowendoc to visit landowners.

Local Land Councils

We have taken the first steps to communicate with the custodians of country - the five Local Land Councils:

  • Purfleet/Taree Land Council (mid North Coast)
  • Bunyah (mid North Coast)
  • Birpai (mid North Coast)
  • Forster (mid North Coast)
  • Nungaroo (Northern)
